GUEST ARTIST

On monday,December 1st ,we went to a room which is on the third floor to listen to an artist.He is one of the most famous garden designers in Jiangsu province.He introduced the art of garden to us.He said:"That picture(the picture at the very top of the page) is a word.In Ancient Chinese it means garden.The biggest rectangle outside is represent enclosure.At the top,inside the rectangle is a chinese word,it means land.At the bottom there's a shape,it looks like a tree,isn't it.Between them there is a circle,it represent a lake.The enclosure,the land,the tree and the lake compose a garden.Lkes,plants and rocks form a silent comfortable environment." He also said:"Chinese gardens include 4 types:Royal Garden personal Garden temple Garden and landscape Garden.The most well-kown garden is Suzhou Garden.Suzhou is a the ancient city of forest，it is also called"Literati landscape garden". Most of garden artists are good at making stones.They stack up pieces of stone, and to make people feel aesthetic.Although it is man-made,people still feel it is the art of nature."He had a rest for a few second,then continued saying:"There's a garden（I forgot the name(:-( it has a lake but it is small,but one of the famous artists in the history named Geyuliang make it feel larger.He visited a lot of well -kown gardens and studied them.He saved all of their style in his mind,and then he could use a stone like a pen.For example designing a rockery,he made it's top larger than the bottom and sags and crests,this design makes people feel natural and comfortable.If the rockery is smooth and perpendicular to the land,it would be as stiff as a poker.Another example in order to adapt to the rise and fall of the tide,he used some steps to make it feel natural when it is rise or fall of the tide."

When he was finishing the speech,we were all clapping our hands ardently.I never take part in such an interesting speech before,it makes us kown more about the art of gardens.
